HeyGen
AI video platform whose Video Agent writes the script, picks visuals and adds a voiced avatar, turning a prompt or document into a finished video.
What the agent does
HeyGen's Video Agent takes an idea, script, PDF or slides and does the editor's job: it structures the story, selects images for each scene, adds the voiceover and renders a presenter avatar (Avatar V, cloned from about 15 seconds of footage), then revises from plain-English feedback. It also ships a HeyGen MCP server and HyperFrames, an open-source framework that lets other agents compose video.
Business model
Self-serve subscriptions for creators and small businesses plus enterprise plans (training, sales enablement, localization) and a developer API. Caveat: most revenue comes from the broader AI-video product (avatars, translation); the autonomous Video Agent and MCP are newer layers, so treat the ARR as an AI-video company that is moving agentic, not as pure agent revenue
Lessons for builders
- Build in public on the way up: HeyGen shared its $1M ARR milestone in April 2023 and its playbook at $100M, and that openness doubled as distribution.
- Capital efficiency is a story you can sell: the company says it makes about $2.70 of ARR per $1 of equity raised and leads its $200M announcement with that, not with a valuation.
- Become the layer other agents call: shipping an MCP server and an open-source agent video framework turns competitors' agents into a distribution channel.
